NOT TOO HOT, NOT TOO COLD

THERMAL CONTROL SYSTEM

While in orbit, our satellite will be exposed to both high and low temperatures in space as it orbits the Earth. Since our satellite contains electronics that have a limited operating temperature range, it is vital that each component is kept within its respective range or else we risk component failure. The thermal team is currently learning to use Thermal Desktop, a thermal modeling software that will simulate the satellite as it orbits the Earth and help us ascertain the proper solutions to maximize the longevity of our components.

At its core, the goal of TCS is to ensure the survivability of the satellite, both on the way to orbit and while it is in orbit. Space is a hostile environment and it is our job to guarantee that our satellite can survive for the mission duration, allowing us to test our payload.
