COMMUNICATIONS

Reception of files and telemetry, transmission of commands for satellite operation and FM voice operation are all under the purview of Communications, a subsystem run mainly by FCC licensed amateur radio operators. In collaboration with UNLV's Amateur Radio Club, it has constructed a ground station for our future satellite, consisting of a pair of M2 circularly polarized Yagi antennas on the roof of UNLV's five story Science and Engineering Building and an Icom 9700, among a wide plethora of other cutting edge equipment. After Rebelsat's primary mission is complete, its operation will be switched over to its secondary mission as an FM repeater, contributing to the growing trend of amateur satellite repeaters. This will allow anyone around the world with an amateur radio license and a handheld radio to talk to others over 3,000 km away via Rebelsat.
